As the famous English adage goes, it’s always better to be safe than sorry. Thus highlighting the importance to be prepared for the unexpected chaos that life throws at us every day. From a road accident to a medical emergency, being able to reach out to friends, family, and concerned authorities in the wake of an unexpected situation, is a lifesaver. Deeply moved by the tragic death of a motorcyclist who bled till his last breath due to lack of medical attention after being knocked down by a car, 16 year-old Siddharth Mazumdar, came up with an innovative idea of Newton’s Meter.
Newton’s Meter is one of the most technologically advanced personal safety devices currently found in the market. Available as a smart wearable device, weighing just 14 gm. Newton’s Meter is a fully automated SOS device combining artificial intelligence, machine learning complete with GPS tracker and SOS messaging. It comes with a companion, the smartphone Newton’s Meter app, which when paired with the device works in unison.
In case of an unexpected occurrence such as an accident, emergency or threat, the Newton’s Meter gets activated within one second and notifies up to ten people with victim’s location with an SOS message, ‘automatically’.
According to the World Health Organization, over one million people fall prey to road accidents every year. Road traffic injuries are also found to be the most leading cause of death for children and young adults between ages 5 to 29. The WHO says that “inadequate post-crash care” poses a serious challenge to this time-sensitive matter. But a pre-emptive post-crash protocol such as a personal GPS tracker with an SOS message can make a huge impact. The SOS messaging (with GPS coordinates) results in fast mobilization of paramedic and emergency services without any delay whatsoever, thus facilitate saving the life of the user”.
In most accidents or emergency situations, it takes at least ten minutes before people start to notice the event and respond. While a few good Samaritans may take the initiative to call an ambulance or notify the relevant authorities, it takes at least an additional 30 to 45 minutes for the necessary help to arrive after the occurrence of an emergency. It makes sense to have a device that watches your back 24 X 7 and respond immediately as an emergency can occur anywhere, at any time.
Given this challenge, the Newton’s Meter is an effective lifesaving facilitation device, meant for everyone, be it kids, young people, men, women, adults, vulnerable, and elderly with diverse applications.
Newton’s Meter was conceptualized in 2016, spearheaded by a team of 10 engineers, with two years of r&d and one year of stringent testing. Newton’s Meter is currently in production under TÜV SÜD supervision in Singapore.
Users first need to pair a sufficiently charged Newton’s Meter Device with the “Newton’s Meter App” on their smartphones via Bluetooth. After which they simply have to register themselves and enter 10 phone numbers that shall be ‘automatically’ notified (via SOS messaging) with users’ real-time GPS coordinates in the case of any accident/ injury/emergency/ threat situations. In the instances where users do not suffer from a sudden impact, fall, or an injury, but are stuck in a personal emergency or a potentially dangerous situation, they can request help by pressing the emergency button on the Newton’s Meter device that allows them to reach out to their contacts and police authorities as well.
While Newton’s Meter is currently offered as a consumer product, the company is currently working on expanding the product’s capabilities to cater to the needs of industrial and military purposes. The Newton’s Meter System as it is called is equipped with Big Data capabilities, geo fencing and idle tracking, access control, in addition to workplace safety features.
With support from Enterprise Singapore, the company will be exhibiting at CES 2020, opening gates to potential investors and business partners.
